Be Cautious When Sending Money Online

Be Cautious When Sending Money Online

Sending money today is faster and easier than ever. With tools like Zelle and other digital payment platforms, payments can be made in seconds. Unfortunately, that convenience has also made it easier for scammers to operate, and their tactics are becoming more convincing.

I recently experienced this myself. I received an email that appeared to be from the president of the Boys & Girls Club requesting a payment. Everything about the email looked legitimate. Before sending anything, I took a moment to verify the request directly and quickly learned it was a scam. A simple double-check prevented a costly mistake.

A Simple Rule to Follow

When sending money electronically, especially through Zelle or similar platforms, it’s important to proceed carefully:

  • Always confirm payment requests through a trusted source
  • Send a small test amount first (even $1)
  • Make sure it reaches the correct person before sending the full amount

Final Thought

Scammers rely on speed and assumption. Taking an extra moment to verify details can protect you from fraud and give you peace of mind.
